Day Twenty-seven – El Pitu to Santa Marina

Friday 15 June 2018

After losing our way yesterday and walking about 7 kms on asphalt at the end of the day (not good for feet) we decided to always try to take the coastal option, generally a bit longer and more strenuous but much better scenery. With beautiful coastal views as you can see in the photo above. Most of the day in steady drenching rain. A very wet 23 kms  and 580 metres we walked along slippery slopes of  mud and crossing many streams on the way.

Wish we could grow hydrangea like these in Perth. They seem to grow almost wild here.  Although wet and no coastline visible through the rain and clouds it was actually quite an enjoyable walk. Walking through glistening forest and woodlands with the sound of rushing water most of the way.

We met Peter from Perth, who now lives in Canberra, at Soto de Luina to say farewell before he heads off to Madrid to meet his wife. Hoping to catch up with him when he comes to Perth at Christmas time.

Enjoyed one of the best Pilgrim meals (Menu de Peragrina) we have had so far, obviously home cooked with Pumpkin Soup, Braised chicken, custard and biscuit and a whole bottle of very nice red wine. The cook, a middle aged woman also runs the bar and the hostal and does it all so cheerfully – Bar Gaya and Hostal Prada highly recommended!

Did a stats check this afternoon and couldn’t believe that we have traveled over 550 kms so far and less than 300 km to go.

Hope you guys had a good time in China. Feet are going OK with the help of a few drugs and the odd short day.
